Duff #22417

Paul Duff F-5 #22417. Just arrived!! this mandolin was handmade by world-class luthier Paul Duff in Western Australia. Once again, our import shipment was held by U.S. Fish and Wildlife, this time for nearly a month. I guess the USFW realizes what a beast these Duff mandolins are and we have to be careful releasing them into the wild! The sound is jaw-dropping: right out of the box: it has volume, power, and tone. In fact, it has everything a top professional or discerning amateur would want in a mandolin. The appearance is absolutely gorgeous, highlighted by the breathtaking 1-piece curly maple back. The sonic range does not quit, from the solid woody G string all the way up to the highest fret. Specifications are patterned after a 1923 Gibson F-5 and include: red spruce tap-tuned top, tone bar bracing, the back hand-carved from one solid piece of Eastern hard maple, dovetail neck joint, a grace radius ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl dots, ebony Loar reproduction bridge, nickel-plated Golden Age tuners with ivoroid buttons, 1 1/16 inch mother of pearl nut, silver plated engraved James tailpiece, hand-stained sunburst, dark Cremona-shaded varnish finish. Includes form-fitted Presto fiberglass case. This is one of the finest top grade F-5 style mandolins you can by; it ranks in sound and quality with instruments of much higher price ranges. Now available at www.mandolincentral.com, at a most reasonable retail of $9000.
