1955 Martin D-28 # 141937 A vintage Martin with gorgeous quarter-sawn old-growth Brazilian rosewood back and sides and “mystery top” spruce, possibly sources from Vermont in 1953. Excellent condition, no cracks, all original finish, with typical and minor play wear on top (below pickguard) and in the center of the back.No bare wood has been revealed by the wear. In In addition to the top and back, other features adhere to factory specifications for this model and year and include Honduran mahogany neck; ebony fingerboard with small dot position markers; Brazilian Rosewood peg head overlay with “C.F. Martin & Co. Est. 1833” scroll transfer on the peg head; 6 ply white/black bindings on top and 3-ply on back; ebony bridge; rear shifted X-cross brace and tone bar interior support system; closed back Kluson tuners, red center dot bridge pins and end pin; tortoise-colored pickguard and original burgundy color-lined case. All these features are factory original except the neck has been professionally reset and bridge replaced with a standard size replica consistent with that model and year. Action is set at perfect factory standard, with bass string height at 3/32” above 12th fret and 1/16” for E string; relief at 8th fret is .005”. The most extraordinary feature of the guitar is the absolutely stunning power and tone, consistent with the very best of the Martin D-28s, and intonation rarely seen in Martins of this age. It is a pleasure to play with ease of left hand movement and no buzzes anywhere. At 68 years old, this guitar is far from retirement age: Condition, playability and sound all assure the player of at least another lifetime of great music!
