CA. 1919 Gibson H-2 Mandola # 52xxx. Beautiful sound, playabilityand condition on this redburst mandola, the tenor voice of the mandolin choir. 1919 Gibson A4 mandolin. Here is a wonderful mandolin nearly a century old that comes from the family of the original owner. Features include red spruce top, maple back and sides, the famous pre-war Gibson redburst varnish finish, mother-of-pearl “The Gibson” and abalone fleur-de-lis inlaid in the peghead. All parts are original, except that the pick guard attachment clamp is missing. However, the pickguard is functional as it is anchored in both the fingerboard extension and in the bridge. The original case is in very nice condition except for the bottom latch which has part of the hinge broken off. A leather patch makes it functional, but we are on the lookout for a hinge to replace the original. Other than that, this instrument is in excellent original condition. This was the top of the line of the Gibson “A” body mandolins in the golden era of the teens and twenties, and it has a wonderful, full sound as is the case with the very best of these A models. This represents a chance to be the second owner of a piece of mandolin history! $2950.
